In 2005, the Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud granted Rob Mazurek for a multi art residency. A multimedia piece based on the abbey environment using digital manipulations of paintings, piano compositions, videos and text.In addition, Rob has experimented playing cornet from late afternoon to late at night at various spot in the abbey. Outdoor, indoor in the big church, and in his atelier. Capturing the energy, and giving it back in his own way.
Abstractions on Robert d'Arbrissel is the testimony of this residency.
The record contains a 16 pages booklet with pictures of the recording session, paintings and a poem by Rob Mazurek.

Rob Mazurek also paints and experiments with multimedia art.
He is a a well-known figure on the Chicago jazz scene with numerous collaborations from jazz to experimental rock artists, performing on albums by Tortoise, Sam Prekop, Gastr del Sol, Stereolab, and Brokeback...
He is the director of the Exploding Star Orchestra (featuring Nicole Mitchell, Jeb Bishop, Ken Vandermark, John McEntire, Jim Baker, Jeff Parker, Josh Berman, Jason Adasiewicz, Jason Ajemian, Michael Reed and John Herndon)... Including a recent project with Bill Dixon.
Rob Mazurek is also leading projects such as Isotope 217, Chicago Underground Duo, Chicago Underground Trio, Chicago Underground Quartet, Sao Paolo Underground...
